What is a Heat Pump?

Heat pumps capitalize on the fact that temperatures in the earth remain fairly constant when you dig just a few feet below the surface.

A heat pump system uses the warmth of the earth to essentially provide “free” energy. It doesn’t burn fossil fuels instead they simply transfer heat from the earth to your home and back out.

Because these pumps harness the available energy from the earth, they can save you anywhere from 30 – 70 percent on your bill over the next 5 – 10 years.

  1. Lower Utility and Maintenance Bills:
Heat pumps are more efficient than even the most efficient furnace or air conditioner. A gas furnace can only be as efficient as the amount of heat it can extract from the burning gas. A heat pump isn’t limited in the energy it can extract from its source, be it air, water or ground.
  2. Environmentally Friendly:
The high efficiency means a smaller carbon footprint for you and your home.
  3. Safe and Quiet:
A heat pump poses no risk of leaking carbon monoxide it also makes minimal noise as compared to a gas furnace.

  1. Ground Source or Geothermal
In which a series of pipes in a horizontal or vertical array draw energy from the earth and then convert it in to heat for your home.
  2. Air Source
As long as the temperature is above 0 degrees, heat can be drawn out of the air to warm your home. An air source hear pump uses pipes to draw energy from the air to convert into heat.
  3. Water Source
In which the pipes draw energy from water circulated within them and convert it into heat.

1993 was the year Ballard Natural Gas Service was born into the Seattle metro area. Conceived to take advantage of the expertise that Landis Kappen had garnered over his years at Washington Natural Gas.

Thinking there was a better way Landis and his wife Kathleen started Ballard Natural Gas Service when Washington Natural Gas made a corporate decision to get out of servicing customer equipment and doing installation of HVAC equipment. They continued to operate their new business out of the family home for a number of years.

“On installation day, the Ballard Natural Gas team arrived promptly at 8 a.m. and got to work. By the end of the next business day, the installation was complete and the installation looked AMAZING. The units work great and we’ve received numerous compliments as to the high quality and cleanliness of the installation.

Thanks so much, Neil, and the BNG installation team for doing a high quality, efficient installation of our new heat pump system – we love it!”
