Pleated filters remove irritants from the air you breathe. Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values, or MERVs, report a filter's ability to capture larger particles between 0.3 and 10 microns.
The higher the MERV rating, the more efficient the air filter is at catching harmful pollutants. If you are worried about air pollution, have family members with respiratory issues, or have multiple pets in your home, going with a higher MERV rating is a good idea.
